Where?

Teaching will primarily take place at Errit Lake.

What will I be learning?

Please see Canoeing Ireland’s website for details on what is covered in the course.

How much is it?

The amount payable to participate is €120.00 which is broken down as follows:

  • €30.00 for membership to Canoeing Ireland, NGO for paddlesports in Ireland
  • €80.00 course fee and membership to Errit Kayak Club
  • €10.00 contribution to Gorthaganny Community Development Company Ltd for upkeep of facilities at Errit Lake

What will I need?

Errit Kayak Club will provide you with a kayak, buoyancy aid, helmet, paddle, spray deck and any other necessary safety equipment.

You will need a wetsuit and booties to wear while you are kayaking and to bring a warm change of clothes and towel for afterwards.  A light, pac-a-mac type windbreaker would also be beneficial to you on breezy evenings.  If you do not have a wetsuit and booties we would highly recommend getting them but if you cannot, you can wear lightweight, quick-drying and preferably thermal athletic clothes such as Under-Armour type base layers and shoes which are lightweight with as little bulk as possible.

You will not be permitted to kayak wearing heavy clothes and absorbent fabrics like jeans, tracksuit bottoms, hoodies, cottons, wool etc.

Is there anything else I should know?

There are very limited facilities for changing at the lake so arrive ready to get into your kayak if possible.

The course requires you to be in as well as on the water so you need to be comfortable putting your head underwater for a few seconds and being out of your depth with the support of a buoyancy aid.

You must be 18 years of age or older to sign up for the course.

How do I sign up?

Our 2023 courses have now finished. If you are interested in joining us in 2024, please complete our Waiting List form to be notified before courses are announced.
