Errit Kayak Club is a community kayaking club based at Errit Lake, Gorthaganny, Co Roscommon, Ireland. Our aim is to help promote water safety and the wonderful sport and recreational activity that is kayaking among adults within our rural community.

Membership is open all year round for people who already hold a Level 2 (or higher!) Kayak Skills qualification and if you’re new to kayaking we hold beginners courses in the spring and summer. Take a look at our Join Us page for more information.

Errit Kayak Club in its current form has been established since July 2018. We are an adults only club allowing a safe place for adults of all ages to rediscover sport and gain confidence and skills on the water.

The club offers beginners’ courses with limited places during the spring and summer with training and certification in Level 2 Kayak Skills. On weekends throughout the year our members can be found paddling Irish waters near and far, enjoying the scenery and sense of peace that comes with a leisurely flat water paddle or being a little more adventurous on whitewater rivers and the sea! During the warmer months, you will also spot us “messing around in boats” in the evenings on our home water of Errit Lake and also our neighbouring lakes of Urlar and O’Flynn.

The club has a mix of touring / sea and GP kayaks and all ancillary equipment for members’ use. We also have three K1 kayaks for members who want to try their hand at racing!

Paddlers with Experience

Prospective members who already hold Level 2 Kayak or Canoe Skills are welcome to join Errit Kayak Club any time! Simply fill out our membership application form and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible to register your membership. The membership year runs from 01 January to 31 December and the cost for Level 2 Skills holders is €72 which includes your Canoeing Ireland membership fee.

New to Paddling

If you would like to join us as an enthusiastic novice with little or no previous kayaking experience we would love to welcome you too! You will need to complete one of our beginners’ courses before you can come with us on trips and these run during the spring and summer. Please contact us to be added to the waiting list and you will be notified when these courses are open for registration. New Paddler membership costs €120 and includes your Errit Kayak Club and Canoeing Ireland membership plus your training and assessment to Level 2 Kayak Skills.
